1960's Full Home Renovation,
-
Our client Eddie W. purchased this mid 1960's vintage home in it's original built condition. Nothing in the home was ever updated and remained unchanged when our client purchased it, but was in a great location here in Hendersonville just 18 miles north of Downtown Nashville.
We were asked to come in, assess the home and offer our suggestions on how to best renovate the structure. Our client was looking for a more open floor plan in his home. He liked the ranch style of the home because he wanted everything on one level.
His first priority was to make the kitchen open into the family room where the fireplace was located and remove the walls between the dining room, kitchen and family room, one of which was a primary load bearing wall. In addition he wanted a larger master bedroom, bathroom and closet area since the original bath in his master bedroom only had a toilet and small sink. The only tub or shower was in the hall bathroom which we gutted and rebuilt.
With an open kitchen, family room, and dining rooms all removed, we decided to re-apportion the square footage in the formal living room along with the original master bedroom and half bath into a totally reconfigured master suite.
With so much of the interior walls being removed, it was felt best that all of the outdated cast iron water and sewer lines be removed and replaced with new PVC drain and PEX waterlines. In addition we removed all the existing wiring, plugs and switches in the home and installed updated wiring, switches, plugs, can lighting and more all to bring the home up to 2012 building codes in effect at the time of renovation.
The result, says our client, was better than expected. Our skilled renovators crafted a new open kitchen complete with new appliances, slide in gas range in a free standing cooking island with overhead vented hood. The kitchen opens into the renovated Family Room with easy viewing of his big screen TV installed over the newly brick faced fireplace.
The original 3/4" by 1 1/2" natural oak flooring throughout the home was totally refinished, damaged boards replaced and stained a rich walnut finish to compliment the light toned painted walls throughout the home.
For the kitchen, our client chose a brick pattern for his ceramic tiled floor to compliment his custom cabinets and granite countertops.
For the master bedroom and bath suite, we built a totally redesigned bath with new tiled shower, tiled floor, sliding glass shower door, tiled shower bench and in wall niche. A 2 person custom vanity with custom linen closet and a fully functional walk in closet with plenty of elbow room to dress in the morning finish out this totally functional and roomy mster bathroom. New windows in the oversized master bedroom bring in loads of natural light to gently wake you in the morning.
Preserving the original brick on the outside of the home, we simply removed the dated decorative iron trim on the front porch and replaced it with wrapped Western Cedar 4x4 posts to give it a new look without changing the overall look of the exterior of the home.
So many of our renovation clients here in the Nashville area are wanting to keep their basic ranch styled homes of the 60's and even the 70's but give them a total makeover so as to become more open and livable.
